🌺 Florals – maybe you adore them, or maybe you avoid them at all costs?

Do they seem too girly once you’re over 50? Or perhaps you worry they will make you look frumpy?
Have you tried a floral and felt the pattern size was wrong,  or feel that florals bring too many colours into the mix?
Personally I’m in the adore camp. Florals just make me happy (provided the pattern and colours are right) 🌷
If you’ve been hesitant about wearing florals, but would like to give them a go, or like me, you love them and want to perfect the look – here’s how to embrace them with confidence and style.

5 Ways to Flourish in Florals

1. Choose the Right Scale for Your Frame
The size of your floral print should complement your proportions. As a guideline, the pattern should be no larger than the space between the centre of your palm and the centre crease of your middle finger. This ensures balance – too tiny a print can get lost on a larger frame, while overly large florals can overwhelm a petite figure.
N.B. This can apply to any other pattern!
Also, check that the most dominant part of the print doesn’t fall over any areas you’re not so keen on. I.E. A large bright flower right across the tummy area.
2. Keep the Colour Palette in Check
If florals seem too busy for you, start with a colour palette that feels comfortable. Maybe even a simple two tone in classic neutrals. One of the reasons I love them so much is because they often feature pink and green (my favourite colour combo)  Look for floral prints that incorporate shades you already love and wear regularly.
3. Balance with Solid Colours
Pair a floral blouse with solid trousers (my favourite – see picture) or a floral skirt with a plain top. This helps to ground the look and prevent it from feeling overwhelming. A structured blazer over a floral dress can also add sophistication and polish.
4. Pick the Right Fabric and Cut
The fabric and cut of a floral piece can make all the difference. Flowing fabrics like chiffon or silk create an elegant and feminine look, while structured materials like cotton or linen give a more casual feel. A floral to suit every Style Personality
5. Use Florals as an Accent
If an all-over floral print feels too much, start small. Accessories like floral scarves, handbags, or even floral-printed shoes can add a stylish touch to your outfit without feeling overpowering. Fancy a floral shoe?
