Summer Dressing – in 3 parts

Why I spent a couple of hours ironing on the hottest day of the year – am I mad!

Do you take time to assess your wardrobe each season Really tune in to what you have and how it serves you? Or are there items that just take up space and rarely get worn?

See below a wardrobe strategy I recommend to my clients, for seamless summer dressing.

Part 1 – Unpacking and ironing

The weather suddenly got hotter and my summer dresses were still in a box.  I had already brought out of storage, my summer weight trousers and tops, but hadn’t done the dresses.

The trouble with dresses – they need ironing, especially the linen ones.

Ironing can be a chore, especially when the weather is warm. But I will let you into a secret, I really enjoy ironing things that have come out of storage.  It gives me a chance to really tune into each item. Rather than just re hanging year after year and not being mindful about the place each item has in my wardrobe.

1. It gives me the chance to check each item over. Noting any damage, wear and tear

2. I can take some time to visualise how and where I will wear each item this season – maybe how I can wear it differently.

3. It’s an opportunity to decide if I still really like it and if it still fits the way I want it to

Part 2  – Repacking and Checking

De-bobbling

Then of course, I need to reload the storage boxes with winter items. Making sure all my jumpers are;

a) Clean

b)  Bobble free

c) I still love them

Part 3 – Letting things go

During this process, I identified several items that no longer serve me for my 2024 summer dressing.

This green jumpsuit no longer feels comfortable

A jumper with an unflattering neckline now my hair is shorter

A 10 year old,  Sainsburys cotton dress, that I no longer love

These are all going to a Clothes Swap.

Summer dressing doesn’t have to be a chore and making the best of your wardrobe won’t take long. You just need a strategy.
