You Don’t Need Every Colour in Your Palette!

One of the lovely things about having a colour analysis is discovering just how good certain colours can make you feel. Suddenly, shades you may never have considered are lighting up your complexion, making your eyes sparkle and giving you that “Oh, I look good today!” feeling.

But there’s a little trap I’ve noticed some women falling into after their colour analysis…

They think they need to buy all of them.

If you’ve been given a beautiful set of colour swatches, it can feel a bit like a shopping list. I need this pink, that green, a blue, a purple, perhaps some yellow… And before you know it, your wardrobe is becoming a rainbow — but you’re still standing in front of it thinking, “I’ve got nothing to wear.”

So, let’s take a breath.

You absolutely do not need every colour in your palette.

Your colour analysis is there to give you choice, not create more pressure. Think of your palette as a toolbox of possibilities rather than a checklist of colours you must own.

Start with the colours you genuinely love. (If you’ve had your colours done with me, these will be your Core Palette) If you adore three or four of your “wow” colours, embrace them! There is absolutely nothing wrong with wearing the same gorgeous shades again and again. In fact, repeating colours throughout the seasons can give your wardrobe a wonderful sense of cohesion.

And this is where your neutrals become incredibly powerful.

Neutrals

Neutrals are the hardworking foundations that allow your beautiful colours to shine. They give your wardrobe breathing space and make mixing and matching so much easier. Whether your best neutrals are navy, chocolate, soft grey, cream, camel, charcoal, they can quietly connect all those fabulous statement colours together. Aim for a light, medium and dark neutral that compliment your skin, hair and eyes AND your core colours.

3-4 Wow Colours + a light, medium and dark neutral can form the perfect palette for you!

Imagine one favourite jacket in your perfect green. You might wear it with your best neutral trousers in spring, layer it over a dress in summer, add a cosy knit underneath in autumn, and pair it with denim and boots in winter.

Same colour. Completely different outfits.

That’s the beauty of a considered wardrobe.

You don’t need more colours. You need to discover how many ways you can wear the colours you already love.

So, if your colour swatches have been making you feel overwhelmed, put the shopping list down.

Choose your favourites. Find your best neutrals. Repeat, remix and enjoy.

Your colour palette should make getting dressed easier, more joyful and more you — not give you another reason to feel you have to buy more, or feel more stressed.
