I am writing this as I approach another birthday and getting used to the fact that I am 63 (how did that happen) I return to that question I hear so often. “how do I know what’s appropriate to wear as I get older?”
Now, as much as I really want to say, “to hec with any rules and other peoples opinions. Do whatever you want and enjoy”
For most of us having guidelines and some structure around what we wear makes us feel more comfortable, rather than steering too far away from conformity.
Finding the perfect style and image for you, does not have to be boring!
It’s not about…
Can I still wear short skirts?
Should I cut my hair?
Can I wear bright colours?
It is about…
Taking some time to really tune into what’s right for you, right now! Writing down, or collecting images of what you want to look like. Really think about…
a) Your lifestyle
b) What works for your body shape
c) How do I want others to see me
How many looks have you tried?
Like me, you have probably tried many different ‘looks’ over the years? My love of clothes, colour and fabric took me in many different directions. However, as I reached my 50’s and now my 60’s, I realise how I can take all that experience and hone in on what I really ENJOY wearing.
I have accepted that my body is not the same as it was in my 30’s and 40’s and I do actually care much less about what others think.
I’ve learnt to really tune into how I feel when I’m getting dressed or trying something new on. I believe we know instinctively what suits us best.
Don’t worry about your age, focus on what feels good for you and please do get in touch if you would like some guidance in a wardrobe and styling session.
Lots of love
