What to do if dark colours drain your complexion
As always, the autumn and winter fashion collections are full of beautiful clothes – but this year the shops seem to be even more dominated by dark, dull colours. There are multiple options in black, really dark brown, deep olive and charcoal and even some of the burgundy shades are really heavy.
While black and very dark shades can look elegant, they’re not always the most flattering, especially if they make you look tired or washed out!
As we age and our skin thins and dark colours can be draining, especially if you are one of the warm seasons. Dark colours don’t always do our mood much good in the winter either!
If you like the dark colours, but they make you feel pale and heavy, try keeping them away from your face. Opt for darker trousers, jackets, coats, boots and shoes and keep your tops and scarves in lighter and brighter shades.
Richer, warmer or softer shades can often be a much better option but which ones you choose will depend on your seasonal colour palette. If you are looking for darker options but want to avoid black, here are some seasonal suggestions.
Black Isn’t Always Best!
If you’d like to avoid black, here are some beautiful alternatives for each season:
- Spring: Warm & Fresh try Chocolate & Warm Navy
- Autumn: Rich & Earthy try Olive & Dark Teal
- Summer: Soft & Cool try Dove Grey & Light Navy
- Winter: Cool & Clear try Charcoal & Deep Navy
These colours add richness to autumn and winter dressing. They can offer a wonderful backdrop for something lighter and fresher directly against your face that will help you to feel bright, confident and put together.
The right colours make all the difference
Dressing in the right shades isn’t about following trends – it’s about feeling good in your skin. Keep the darks away from your face, explore the options that suit your season, and let your natural beauty shine through.
