Makeup made easy, has come about because I often hear from women over 50 that they have given up on makeup, because they just don’t know what to do.

This blog is separated into 3 different sections, each with short videos attached.

As we age, our skin changes, getting either corser or thinner, our eyelids droop and our eyebrows either grow bushy, or not at all. All of these changes can result in our makeup looking so different from how it did 10 years ago.

If you can relate to this – read on…

Video 1 shows the importance of preparing the skin and our foundation layer.

It’s all in the prep

Just like when we paint a wall, we make sure it’s clean and smooth, before we add paint. This is where are cleansing and moisturising comes in.

Step 1 Base

Face primer – this provides a lovely smooth surface and also keeps your foundation layer in place for longer.

Eye primer – I use this even when I’m not wearing eye shadow. It evens out the blue/purple shadows I have now I’m older and it makes my eyes look brighter

Foundation of choice – liquid, compact, CC, tinted moisturiser. Find something you like the feel of and how it looks.

Even if you use nothing else, for most women, a light coverage will even out skin tone and make you look fresher

N.B. pick a shade that is closest to your natural skin tone and have a different shade for summer and winter.

(Mix the 2 together for Spring & Autumn)

Concealer – choose a shade that is slightly lighter than your base.

Apply very small amounts to your under eye area and anywhere else you have age spots or blemishes.

Step 2 Eyes

During the menopause, my eyebrows became really sparse and stopped growing. I used to pencil them in daily, until I had them microbladed. If yours are sparse, filling them out with a soft pencil, or powder can make so much difference to how your face looks.

If the are bushy and straggly, it’s worth getting them professionally tidied. Especially if you need to wear glasses to see properly!

I partially line my eyes on the top and fully on the bottom, along the water line. This makes them appear bigger and more awake.

For a day time look, use a very neutral shadow across my whole lid, followed by a slick of mascara.

Step 3 Cheeks and Lips

I speak to so many women, who are not sure what shade of lipstick suits them anymore, so they’ve given up wearing it!

Likewise, with blusher!

When it comes to which colour, that depends if you are warm/cool or neutral skin tone and how vivid you want to go.

If you’ve had your colours done, do refer to your swatches/fan and use the pinks, orange and red shades that you have been

recommended.
