I have to admit that packing to go on holiday is not my favourite thing!
I worry that I won’t have the right things for the right events (or weather). So I always take too much!
Having said that, I do find it so much easier now, since working with my ‘Colour Packing System’ It works for a beach holiday, city break and even work trip.
I suddenly realised that if I applied the basic principles I use in a wardrobe edit, it’s all so much easier, i.e. putting colour first.
The System
Step 1 – Make a list of all the activities you need to cover, i.e. beach, dinners, dress up, sight seeing, meetings etc.
Step 2 – Decide on your colour palette. From the colours/shades that you know suit you, choose two neutral shades and two colours that you love.
Step 3 – Using the steps 1 & 2, start going through you wardrobe and clothes storage areas and pick out items that fit the activity list and the colours you’ve picked. – Don’t forget to include accessories!
What I did
The last holiday I had was a Yoga retreat in Egypt. We stayed on a beach, so I didn’t need anything dressy. I did need some warm layers as it was only March and it got quite cold at night.
My chosen colours were pink and green and for my neutrals I picked cream and some grey in my yoga clothes. When you are putting your outfits together, it’s easy to identify any gaps. For the Egypt trip, I decided I needed an extra pair of shorts. They were super easy to buy as I was able to search women’s pink or green shorts and came up with the perfect pair in Next.
My packing on this occasion was a great success. I managed to do a lot of mixing and matching and there was only one thing that came back unworn.
Happy packing and please join my Facebook group for more tips and tricks
