Spring is here.  Or is it?

One day it’s warm and sunny, the next day it’s chilly and grey.  I think we would all love four defined seasons, but for our clothes, realistically we only really have two.

These are usually October to sometime in April then April round to sometime in October!

As we are now into April it’s the perfect time for a wardrobe sort out.  Taking stock of what you have, bringing things out of storage and having a good trying on session.

Right now we can be putting away our heavy knitwear, thick coats and furry boots.  But we still need thinner jumpers, lightweight coats and scarves and a variety of tops and trousers.

Storing Clothes

If you are saving space by putting away heavy winter garments, here are my top tips for making sure they are earning their storage space…

  1. Make sure they are clean.

2. Check for holes, piling, loose threads, missing buttons etc. and deal with them NOW!

  1. Ask yourself, do I really like it? Does it still suit me, is it a good colour? Try not to keep things out of pure habit if they no longer serve you.

  1. If there is any pure wool content in any of the items, add some moth repellent. A few drops of lavender or tea tree essential oil is a great natural repellent.

  1. Put tissue in between anything delicate.

Bringing Clothes out of Storage

If you’re bringing spring/summer clothes out of storage, give them a considered check over, before adding them back into your wardrobe.

Spend some time thinking about whether they still fit comfortably, do you still really like them.  What do they go with that’s new in your wardrobe?

Start thinking about some fresh new outfit ideas.

i.e. Jumpers over dresses, to make them warmer and more casual.

A cardigan buttoned up to create a jumper.  Use different accessories to create different looks.  Think creatively and you might be amazed at what you come up with.

Layers are always good for British weather.  They pretty much take us through till October again, with the odd weeks of floaty dresses, bare legs and vest tops.

The main thing to remember, enjoy your clothes and sometimes, think outside the box (or in this case, your wardrobe!)

I love getting down and deep into your clothes storage areas, so please get in touch if you need a hand to get started.
