The Power of Pink

🌸 A Quick Dip into the History of Pink

Pink hasn’t always been the girly-girl shade it’s stereotyped as today. In fact, way back in the 18th century, pink was seen as a colour for the elite—think French aristocrats in powdered wigs and floral jackets. It was worn by both men and women, and symbolised youth, charm, and status. In those days, pink was more of a statement than a stereotype.

Fast forward to the 20th century, and something odd happened. Around the 1940s-50s, marketing campaigns began assigning blue to boys and pink to girls (the power of  marketing!) This stuck, especially with the boom in baby products and children’s fashion.

🎀 Pink Has Many Moods

Pink isn’t just one colour – it’s a whole world of shades, each with its own mood. Baby pink gives soft, innocent vibes. Hot pink screams bold and fun. Dusty rose leans vintage and romantic, while fuchsia has a rich, confident punch.

It can be the ultimate power colour—just think of a woman in a fuchsia suit or a sharply tailored pale pink blazer. It’s eye-catching, unexpected, and actually kind of subversive. There’s strength in pink now – it’s not just for the girly girls, There is a pink for all.

💖 Pink and Skin Tones: Finding Your Shade

Not all pinks suit everyone, but there is a pink out there for you. It all comes down to undertones. If you’ve ever tried on a pink lipstick and thought, hmm… something’s off, this is probably why.

For Cool undertones (you tend to burn easily, silver jewellery looks best on you):

  • Go for blue-based pinks – Baby pink, rose, fuchsia, raspberry.

  • These shades harmonise with the coolness in your skin and make you look fresh and glowy.

For Warm undertones (you tan easily, gold jewellery suits you):

  • Look for yellow or peachy-based pinks – Coral pink, salmon, peachy rose, even terracotta-tinged pinks are gorgeous (especially for Autumns)
  • These play nicely with your natural warmth and won’t wash you out.

Neutral undertones?

  • Lucky you—most pinks will work! Just experiment to see what makes your skin look alive.

If you’re ever unsure, hold the pink fabric or lipstick next to your face in natural light. If it makes your eyes pop and your skin look even, there it is, that’s your pink.

What’s your Pink?

So wear it your way. Own it. Be bold in blush or fierce in fuchsia. Pink’s not just a colour—it’s an attitude.
