Is this you?
The invite lands on the door mat (or more likely via whatsapp) and your first reaction is, how lovely, but your second reaction is…
“What on earth am I going to wear?”
Have you found that as you’ve got older, getting dressed up to go out can be a bit of a minefield? Personally, I feel pretty confident on a day to day basis, but these days, when I go out, I sometimes have doubts! To avoid this, I know I need to plan ahead and consider the whole outfit.
Are you already dreading the festive season because of what to wear?
I’m sure you want to look and feel your best for every festive occasion? Even if you are just staying in with family and friends. It’s still good to feel a bit special over Christmas?
It’s time to unlock your Festive Style.
I realise this may be a bit early for you? But I think it pays to be prepared?
Often one of the biggest concerns during the festive season is whether last year’s outfits will still fit, or will you still feel good in them?
A quick word about sustainability…
Years ago, most of us felt that we had to have something new each year, as we didn’t want to be spotted at the same event, wearing the same thing.
Happily, I believe that it’s nowadays the right thing to is maximise the use of all our clothes. I never did really buy into the not wearing the same dress vibe – no one else remembers and even if they did, who cares!
Re-purposing what you already own to create fresh and stylish looks, can be kinder to our pockets and the planet?
Be Prepared
If you want to be prepared, here are my top tips to guide you:
- Plan Your Outfits in Advance:
The festive season can be hectic, and deciding what to wear at the last minute can be stressful. Plan your outfits in advance for each event or occasion. This will not only save you time but also ensure that you have the perfect look ready. Make sure you try everything on, including underwear, footwear and outer wear.
I used to always get caught out by not having the right tights, or coat, causing stress at the last minute!
2. Embrace Versatile Pieces:
Invest in versatile wardrobe pieces that can be dressed up or down. For example, adding a velvet or sequined jacket, would add instant glamour to a simple dress, or trousers.
3. Accessorise:
Mix and match current items with different accessories. Shoes, necklaces, bracelets and bags, can really elevate an outfit from plain to glam.
4. Outer wear:
Unfortunately for us in the UK, our party season is during the depths of winter, so we need warmth and often rain protection when we go out. Consider your coat, scarf, gloves and shoes, when deciding what to wear. Could you take a change of footwear, will there be a cloakroom etc.
5. Relax in Style:
Parties can be fun, but so can cosy nights in. Cosy, doesn’t have to mean scruffy. Since lock down, there is so much choice for stylish and comfy leisure wear. It can be a great idea to have one or two matching sets and then add a couple of extra sweat tops, or jumpers, so you have plenty of choice – maybe even add a sparkle or two? It is Christmas after all!
6. Makeup:
Practice adding a bit of glam to your daytime makeup, with extra highlighter on your brows and cheeks. Choose a stronger, or glossier lip colour and an extra coat of mascara.
Don’t let the holiday season overwhelm you start thinking about it soon and it won’t be stressful
